FAQ's about Willy lures

What kind of action do Willy lures have in the water?
The Original Willy lure swims similar to a crank bait in the water. They are extremely well balanced and stay that way. They don't spin in a circle. Take a look at our underwater video footage for a better idea or see this photo showing it's position in the water

How does the two position action work?
The two position action is available on the 200 Series and the 300 Series Willy. The factory setting shown here is set to give a more erratic action in the water. If you move the duo-lock setting down to the next hole it will provide a more subtle action.

Who invented Willy Lures?
The Willy Lure was invented by Bill ("Willy") Cordingley in 1994 Toronto, Canada. Sometime later, Hagen's (a fishing tackle manufacturer) bought the patents, and incorporated it into their existing high quality product line of fishing tackle components. For more information about the story visit the about us page.

Can I troll with the 100 Series?
Because of it's heavy weight to size ratio slow trolling speeds can tend to impede the action on the 100 Series. However sometimes minimal action is required for catching some species and this will work to your advantage. If your looking for lighter weight trolling models the 200 Series and the 300 Series magnum are perfect at a wide range of speeds because of the larger size to weight ratio.

What kind of fish do Willy Lures catch?
Our two trolling models the 200 Series and the 300 Series have proven effective on lake trout, rainbow trout, steelhead, all salmon, pike and walleye. The 100 Series has proven effective for walleye, pike, and trout where jigging and casting permits.

Can I cast with your trolling models?
Yes!You can cast with our trolling models (200 Series and 300 Series) as a lot of pike anglers do. They will retrieve at a depth of 2-4 feet deep and are as heavy as many crank bait model lures.

How good are your finishes?
Our finishes are outstanding. They are all hand painted and are treated with 3 coats of a special clear coat making them both beautiful and durable.
